Carly Sargent has created her own style and focus as a glass fusion artist. Beginning over five years ago with small fused glass pieces, she has developed a following for her jewelry, angels with "attitude", decorative serving trays, "wall pockets", and other functional art.
In addition to her work with smaller pieces, she has begun accepting commissions for specialized fused glass, such as unique sets of gifts to celebrate weddings, and awards for business or sports. She also works with architects and other designers in creating windows, specialized shower enclosures, and other architectural installations.
Fused glass is a delicate creative process. It involves the selection, shaping and positioning of compatible glass and selected metals before they can be slow fired at a very high temperature and then cooled. The fused piece will have its own unique shape and, depending on the materials, color. She feels what makes it so special is its transparency, especially in sunlight. Carly makes her own molds, and continually experiments with materials and methods. Her workshop includes kilns in various sizes; one so large that it had to be built outside. |
